On 31st March we held a presentation to celebrate 8 of our employees completing their apprenticeships, if you missed our press release in the Evening Telegraph you can read it here:

Kettering employer Cooney Marine recently celebrated the success of their apprentices with a presentation hosted by Managing Director, James Cooney. The apprentices have successfully completed Advanced Level Apprenticeships and Intermediate Apprenticeships. There were three Advanced Welding Fabrication Apprentices, one Design and five Level 2 Intermediate Engineering Apprentices. In addition, following completion one apprentice has progressed to a Higher Apprenticeship with the remaining five Level 2 Apprentices progressing on to Advanced Level.

James is incredibly proud of the apprentices, as are all Cooney Marine employees who also attended the presentation.

Managing Director, James Cooney started his career as an apprentice himself and this route is something he likes to implement in his work force. Specialising in stainless engineering for the international marine industry Cooney Marine operate at the forefront of design, engineering and manufacturing technology, receiving accredited acknowledgement by the architectural industry.

James’ investment into apprenticeship training has been supported thoroughly by local Training Provider NITAL. The charitable organisation, who have recently established their Training Academy in Kettering, have delivered quality apprenticeships, to the young people of Northamptonshire, and bespoke training programmes, to meet the needs of employers, since 1969.

James remains committed to apprentices with the recruitment of 6 apprentices, all candidates have spent the last 8 months studying full time at the new Training Academy, gaining the correct engineering fundamentals whilst obtaining a Level 2 PEO qualification ensuring they are work ready for joining Cooney Marine at the start of next month.

August 2014 - Cooney Marine just got more DYNAMIC!

When it comes to technology you have to stay ahead of the curve and that is exactly what Cooney have done, this time with Dynamic Waterjet.

Waterjet technology had been around for a while now but it just got better

Dynamic Waterjet has the ability to not only profile cut ridiculously thick materials with a really nice surface finish, but can cut chamfers and CSK’s at the same time. Jobs that had secondary operations in the machine shop can now be processed on one machine”.

Really proud to bring this technology to the Marine Industry and have been pleased to work alongside our local LEP to make it happen, we have wanted to invest in a Waterjet for some time and Northants LEP have given us the boost to get the machine we really wanted.

We are exhibiting at the Southampton Boat Show in September pop onto our stand to see some samples from the machine.

Cooney’s Operation Director, Andrew Sims, is a winner at the Made in the Midlands Awards 2012!

The insider’s Made in the Midlands awards recognised some of the regions most innovative and successful companies that have embraced sustainability, innovation and exporting. Justin Webb, the event host, said that the UK was “gradually waking up to the fact that the Midlands has never forgotten. That our national wealth is based on what we make and what we sell. This is the sector, this is the region, where long term prosperity of Britain is being forged.”

Andy was the winner of the Manufacturing Personality of the year category sponsored by Greenwell Gleeson.

‘Andrew Sims, stands out as a role model for what an engineer should be. Judges felt he richly deserved this award not only for his contributions to a major Midlands manufacturer but for his work in promoting his sector and manufacturing as a whole, to the domestic business community, the general public and internationally.’
